OVERALL TEACHING PRACTICE REPORT

I am hereby submitting my overall report about my teaching practice at two schools.

1. SEKOLAH MENENGAH PEHIN DATU SERI MAHARAJA:

I chose this school in my first semester. The school administration accepted me to do my teaching practice here. They gave me year 8 C' class. The time was from 10.00 a.m to 11.30 a.m three periods. I did not take any leave during my teaching practice time at SMPDSM. I reached there before 7.30 and stayed until 12.30 as a regular teacher would. Once I entered I signed in the time and date on the paper provided and before leaving I signed again the time as regular teachers do.

The class teacher of year 8C taught every thing in advance because she was pregnant at that time. So, I taught them on how to create 'gmail' and 'blog'. Besides I helped the class teacher for revision.

I did not get much teaching experience in SMPDSM but I observed others while they were teaching their students in the lab.

The Senior Mistress in charge of academic matters Cg. Hjh Fathima asked me to observe everything about the school like school atmosphere etc. So, I am now well acquainted with the entire school enviromnment. If I need anything I just verify from Cg. Fathima.

The SMPDSM principal Hjh Azizah was a very friendly person. Sometime she asked me to read the 'Holy Quran' in the morning with her. If there is any party she would ask me to come and join in. She treated me as one of the teachers of her school.

Overall I gained some experieces from there.



2. SEKOLAH MENENGAH SULTAN SHARIF ALI:


My second semester I changed my school because of the clash of timetable. I approached this school for TP. They accepted me and gave two different classes for teaching and one class for observation and to assist the class teacher Cg. Rafidah.

Form 1A: 7.30 a.m to 8.00a.m
Form 1K: 8.30 a.m to 9.30 a.m (modified)
Form 5 : 11.30a.m to 12.30 a.m (modified PMV stge 2)

The timetable was arranged by the Deputy principal Hjh. Nuraini. If she see me then she would ask me about my TP and so on. She was a very flexible and kind person. The school administration arranged a punch card for me every month.

I gained a lot of experience from this school because I was scheduled to teach more classes. My HOD Cg. Hjh Hadifah observed me every week first period of class 1A. Then she gave me feedback on the UBD form and explained to me about her report.

She gave me 4 reports on UBD form and gave the white copy to me. She is a very nice and quiet lady and she always smiled. I finished my last teaching practice and went to see the the H.O.D to bid good bye and asked if she wanted to ask me anything because I would not be coming back to the school. She said everything is okay and she was very happy and then she went inside and came back with a present for me.

Cg. Rafidah was a newly appointed teacher. She would inform me in advance on what lesson to teach because she is the class who was teaching the classes every saturday.

I liked the school and the atmosphere and so on.

I just followed the SPN 21 Notes for year 7A class and I followed the Basic computing notes for my year 7K class.

5. PHOTOS AND VIDEOS:

I took some photos and videos in all of my classes but I uploaded only a few photos because students misbehaved in some classes and so I did not upload some photos.


6. STUDENTS' OUTCOMES:

My year 7A performed very well and my year 7K learned more through lab practices. I gave a lot of chance to do a individual practice in lab for my year 7K class.


7. CONCLUSION:

From my teaching practice I got different experiences from both schools. My UBD mentor observed me at both schools.

Over all I enjoyed my teaching practice and gained extra teaching skills and knowledge.

8. THANK YOU:

I thank both the schools and the school administration and my mentors/co-operating teachers/lecturers for having guided me in my quest to become a responsible and efficient teacher to serve the pupils of Brunei Darussalam.




12th day

TP REPORT:


On the last day of Teaching practice, I reached the school as usual. I punched my card in the admin office and headed towards the computer lab where I passed my lesson plan to the HOD.

Lesson for 1A: (7.30 to 8.00)

Today we (class teacher cg. Rafidah and I) arranged a revision test for the students. The questions were set from the topic 'Output devices' which had been covered recently. After greeting the students I passed the question papers to my students and asked them to try to answer individually. I asked them to sit some distance away from each other. They followed my instructions quietly and began to answer the test.

The question paper was of five pages and those questions were like choose, fillups and puzzle(across and down).

The students foundout the answers. Some questions were made deliberately to confuse them. The time was not enough for them to think. So, I asked them to continue the work at home as a homework and find the anwers themselves.

Lesson for 1K: (8.30 to 9.30)

I booked the lab no. 2 for 1K students because there were 16 students. Today's lesson was the continuation of Microsoft Word and the students practiced their activities.

Today I focussed on how to edit, copy and insert text into their documents and how to use the clip board in a Microsoft Word document and I taught them how to use control+home, ctrl+end keys and its functions.

Then I let the students try these functions while typing a documents. I asked them to type two paragraph without mistakes and explore the ribbon functions in Microsoft Word.

Most of the students did their work succesfully and 4 students needed my help to finish their work.

PMV stage 2: (11.30 to 12.30)

I assisted Cg. Rafidah in this class. The students were restless, especially the boys. Two boys were trying to sleep. I asked the students if they were bored? One of the students said, "No teacher". But they would not pay attention to the lesson being taught by the class teacher.

Once the lesson finished, the class teacher immediately asked them to do some excersice related to the topic and she told them to verify the answers from the notes.

11th day

Today I reached my school before the HOD and punched in my punch card in the administration office. I was waiting outside the laboratory. Later the HOD came and opened the lab. I passed my lesson plan to the HOD. Since the class teacher was busy it was just the HOD and I.

This week's teaching practice was the continuation of the topic on “Output devices”.which had been started by the subject teacher. I just continued my part in output devices such as printer, speaker and lights. In today’s lesson, the objective is to teach students how to exlore the functions and advantages of output devices.

Lesson for year 7A:

My HOD sat infront of the IWB and observed my teaching techniques. I did not bring any form to fillup but the HOD had some UBD forms and she wrote something and gave me. I brought an original cartridge to show the students and brought my students to relate the real world. I asked some questions about the different types of printers and printouts and cartridges etc Because I need to check the students prerequisite competencies.
After finishing my lesson I asked some questions and the students answered correctly. Students enjoyed the lesson.

Lesson for year 7K:

Today I start a new lesson for year 7 K in Lab 2 which is quiet big. The objective of the lesson was mainly focused on how to open a Microsoft Word and prepare documents and how to save the documents and how to reopen the documents and how to use the toolbar etc. I already taught the shortcut keys and how to rename, delete and permanently delete the files from the Recycle bin. The lesson was quite an easy one. The students understood and explored by themselves.
The lesson was of 30 minute duration. After that I let the students practice the Microsoft word. I asked them to type computer notes and save the documents.The students succesfully saved the files under their own names.

10th day

Today I reached the school as usual. I passed my lesson plan to my HOD.

Lesson for year 7A: (7.30 to 8.00)

I taught input devices (automatic) for my year 7A class. The sub topic was Magentic Ink Character Recognition Reader (MICR) and Optical Mark Reader. I brought few original cheques for the students to see and understand about magentic ink which is used to write in the cheque leaves for cheque number, area code and account number. I showed some pictures using power point slides related to this lesson.

The students were very happy. My HOD who observed me as usual was very happy too with the lesson..

9th day

TP REPORT:


Today the English Department conducted a Quiz programme for all year 7 and 8 students during the first 2 periods.

For 1K I continued the topic Operating System and began a new subtopic on how to manage files using the Windows Explorer. How to use the double click and the right click and also how to drag, copy and rename files for easy management and dispose into the recycle bin and permenantly delete from the recycle bin or restore it to their original place. The lesson took about 40 minutes and I let the students to practise what had been taught.

Both the computer labs have been provided with new computers and all the students were very happy doing their practicals and successfully finished their work.

PMV 5 (stage 2):

The class teacher gave a handout and asked the students to answer some questions by referring to their computer notes. The boy students were very disruptive and lacked motivation. I went around and rendered assistance.

8th day

TP REPORT:

Today I reached at 7.11a.m. My HOD Hjh.Hadifah was absent today. I taught a new lesson 'Manual Input devices' for 1A using electronic notes and powerpoint slides for keyboards, ergonomic keyboards, mouse and mouse pad. The pictures were very useful for my students to explore themselves about the ergonomic keyboards and its advantages etc.
They enjoyed today's lesson.

For year 7K, I just continued with the last week's practicals because they needed more practice.I asked them about last week's practical but only some students still remembered the shortcut methods. 7K students HAVE some ideas and explored the keyboard shortcuts.

Today I swapped the big lab with another teacher who agreed to use the smaller lab. My year seven students were happy to use the big lab because each and every students could use one computer each and explore the practical activity individually.

6th day

Today the class teacher conducted test for 1A , I supervised the class and collected the test paper and gave it to the Cg.Rafidah.

Today I swapped the big lab with another teacher because I have 16 students in my year 7K class.
For 1K, I taught the functions of the keyboard shortcuts on the IWB in the big lab and allowed the students to practice in the lab individually.
From time to time Cg Rafidah helped some students who needed help and attention.

5th day

TP REPORT:


I reached school at 7.20 as usual. I passed both of my lesson plans to HOD. My HOD came and observed my year 7A class and gave some feedback.

LESSON FOR YEAR 7A:

Today's lesson was focussed on health and safety issues in ICT. I explained the term ergonomic and explained some safety rules.

I asked them to follow the safety rules while using ICT lab and while using computer at home.

LESSON FOR YEaR 7K:

I taught the topic 'controlling hardware' for my 1K class. I explained on how to turn on and off the computer properly.

Then I showed them how to check the space in hard drive on the IWB. My year seven K students learnt more through practice. So, I let the students practice on how to check the drive space. They eagerly sit infront of the computer and then they explored by themselves. Few students were asking for my help to find out the drive space.

4th day

TP REPORT:

CLASS 1A: (7.30-8.00)

I continued with MS paint for my 1A. Different practical activities were given to the students. Among the tasks were inserting clip art, text and more practice with the toolbar. The students were able to follow the lesson with some supervision. They needed a lot of prompting and examples. Overall the lesson was interesting and the students were engaged and seemed to have enjoyed the lesson. However the time allocated was only 30 minutes and nothing much could be completed given the time frame.

The students were very motivated and fast learners and were on task most of the time.

The H.O.D, who is the CT observed me during this lesson and commented that it was overall a good lesson.

CLASS 1K:(8.30-9.30)

In my 1K I was teaching the safety precautions, the rules and regulation to follow during computer lessons at the lab. Then I administered a short test related to today's lesson to check their understanding.

Dr Leong, my TP Coordinator observed me for this lesson and pinpointed that I should make the lesson more interesting. I agree I should incorporate some other activities, being 1K they were rather slow.

3rd day

Today the 9th of February I taught 1A Microsoft Paint and showed them how to paste some pictures and edit the pictures and text. Then I allowed my students to do some drawings using Microsoft paint individually. Most of them drew very well using the tool bar.The 1A students managed to draw some drawing on their computers and saved their work in their folders.Some students copied their work into their pendrives. They were aware of basic commands.

The HOD came and observed me. But the time was not enough to do the project effectively in an half an hour class period. After I finished my teaching I went to the common staffroom with Cg.Rafidah. She introduce m topic to somee of the hher colleagues.

Then at 8.30a.m I went to the computer lab again and had 1K. I taught them "Introduction of computer" which had already been taught by the class teacher. Some new students were enrolled into this class. So I reintroduced the same topic. After finishing the lesson I gave a ten-minute short written test for those students.Then I asked them to exchange their papers and correct it. They exchanged their papers and did the corrections themselves. But the performance was not so good, because they were 1K.

For both classes I was using the IWB. For year 7A I was using 'SPN' 21 based notes, as for year 7K the notes were 'basic computing'.

2nd day

On the second of February I arrived at school at 7.20a.m. The deputy principal introduced me to Cg Rafidah, who is an ICT teacher whose class I would take on Mondays. Then I accompanied her to her class and assisted her in her class while she was conducting an assessment.

Then I met the H.O.D who told me that she would absorb me during the first period every Monday because she was free at that time. During the other periods I would be observed by Cg Rafidah.

Semester 2- 1st day

TP REPORT:

This term due to a clash in my timetable I had to change school. Dr Leong asked me to change school and so I decided to go to a school near my catchment area.

I went to Sekolah Menengah Sultan Sharif Ali on the 24th of January and met the principal, Hjh Zalizah and the DP1 Noraini binti Hj Abdul Raffar and they gave me three classes on Mondays. The classes are 1A, 1K (PMV) and PMV 5 stage 2 class.

1A from 7.30 to 8.00 and for 1K it is from 8.30 to 9.30a.m. for my teaching practice. I was asked to observe and help out the PMV 5 Stage 2 class from 11.30 to 12.30p.m.

Semester 2-13th T.P

On the 12th of January 2009 I went back to school and met the principal at 7a.m. She showed me the school PMB results and pointed out that it was higher this year at 82.01%. This year the school student population rose to 1005.

The principal arranged a meeting for all T.P teachers and briefed about the school administration and school regulation and she asked us to come from 7 to 12.30p.m like last year.

She also requested our timetable so that the school could fit us accordingly.

Lets welcome the new year and hope that this year would be a prosperous year for all of us.

12th Teaching Practice

The 12th of November was still the Revision week and I helped in enrolling the new students joining year 7. The C.T was absent.

On the 5th of November 2008 the school started their Revision Week and since the C.T was on medical leave I supervised the classes.
