10th Teaching Practice

Today the school had a function. No classes. I was asked to do relief and so I gave my Form 2C four questions and asked them to post their answer on their blogs as soon as they are able to.

Self-evaluation

The D & T lab was spacious and ideal for my lesson for it had enough computers in working condition connected to the internet. This is the 1st time I had the D & T room and it helped the flow of the lesson.

My lessonplan for this lesson can be obtained by clicking the link below.

While demonstrating I created a blog simultaneously for the students to follow and I named it http://muthutpf-students.blogspot.com/

The blogs of my students are linked below. Except for two students who gave me wrong url.
  1. http://rusyaidi-adi.blogspot.com
  2. http://wwwazirah.blogspot.com/ (nice layout)
  3. http://www.ultramentanduktiga.blogspot.com/
  4. http://wwwchainofcrystal.blogspot.com/(slide show added and post, chose nice template)
  5. http://wwwerox.blogspot.com/  (he added slide show and posting)
  6. http://wwwpiasau.blogspot.com/ (funny description)
  7. http://wwwbluefirez.blogspot.com/ ( must advice to write good things)
  8. wwwdarkrai.blogspot.com
  9. http://wwwmaman123.blogspot.com/(nice template and post)
  10. http://wwwlonely1310.blogspot.com/(she wrote about her boy friend :)   )
  11. http://wwwchainofcrystal.blogspot.com/(nice template,added slide show and post)
  12. http://wwwbadboyz.blogspot.com/
I would folow up with those two students who gave me the wrong blog address in the next lesson.

Anyway I am overjoyed that my form 2C were able to creat blogs  and customise the blogs to their own taste and post material of their choice. Even their own titles were catchy. I gave them liberty to do whatever they wanted and only told them to write good things and good postings.

The fact that all managed to create blogs signifies that most of the 7 learning objectives I had planned in my lesson plan has been met by nearly all the students.

9th Teaching practice

On reaching school at 6.48 I headed straight to sign in at the admin block.Dr Leong came on time.  I started teaching at 10 a.m.

I asked my students to sign in to their email acconts. Most of the students opened their gmail accounts however a few students forgot their passwords. They then created their email account again with the help of their friends or my help.

At 10.15 I began demonstrating the blogging step by step. All the students followed my instruction and created their blogs succesfully. They chose the template and their own blog name and their own passwords without any help.

I asked them to copydown the blog address and pasword just in case they forgot their blog or passwords. I got a list of their blog names.

Altogether there were 14 students present.

Everyone managed to creat their blogs successfully. They also post their own  thoughts in writing and try to edit their blogs to improve it.
They then added gadjets (slideahow or picture like that) to their blogs within the allocated time.

I was and am very happy that my form 2c created blogs. Needles to say they were happy to see their work online. The class ended at 11.30 a.m.

8th Teaching Practice

Arrived in school at 6.47 a.m as usual and took the form 2 class to the computer lab and continued to teach how to create blogs. Only 4 computers had internet connection today.

First I opened the blogger.com website and showed the students how to sign up and then how to choose template and also how to post.

They used up 3 class periods, because the message currently unavailable kept coming up in the blogger website. So it was very difficult to create and also to show them their blogs.

Eventually only 3 students successfully created their own blogs. They posted their own thoughts something that interested them.

7th Teaching Practice

Arrived at school at 6.40 a.m and started class on time. I gave a copy of the lesson plan to my co-operating teacher and requested her to give me three periods for teaching gmail and blog creation. She agreed and gave me three classes.

First of all I surveyed the number of students who owned computers at home, the type of computer that they had and whether they have any internet connections at home and so on. Seven students have laptops and one a desktop at home. Only two students have internet connections at home. Others use dialup connections.

After that, I used the IWP to show the students how to create gmail accounts. At that time only five computers were working with internet connection. So students who were at those computers and were eager to create gmail accounts started and followed me to create gmail account as I was demonstrating on the IWB. In total 18 students were in that class on that day and one student was absent.

Finally only 10 students created their account successfully.I just took a copy from the students what had created their gmail account. The time was not enough for teaching blog creation, hence I will teach it in next class.

Gmail accounts of the students are:
1.blackman.bruneian
2.fifah123
3.khalid.ibnu80
4.dak.2211
5.ana.abusamah
6.ultramen tanduk tiga
7.cruncher.1110
8.putra192
9.eren.smith
10.zeyakhalid.

In fact all the time was used up for creating their gmail, because the students were in form 2 c..,

Common Test Questions

6th TP Day

Reaching school I was informed that the students would be doing their mid term common test. The H.O.D had to attend a meeting and asked me to get acquainted with the school.

So I went around the school to other blocks and finally ended at the library.

As luck would have it I met the SM Examination and we got into small talk. She disclosed to me that this system of TP teachers coming once a week is still new to them and she is not sure whether this would be effective in the long run. She also mentioned that certain schools avoided taking TP teachers and somehow produced good results.

I argued saying that the avoidance of taking TP teachers could not have been the main reason why they fared better. We cannot rule out the possibility though but I said more detailed study need to be done to verify and confirm this notion. I personally believe and I told her this: that some TP teachers also bring with them modern teaching and learning ideas and strategies and are equally capable of working towards their students obtaining better grades given the oppurtunity and the benefit of the doubt.

I rebutted the assumption that veteran or experienced teachers are better by directing her attention to excellent work done by UBD in providing In-service teachers with the opportunity to explore other schools and draw conclusion from their experience, which I believe would be invaluable and also mentioned the instances where some TP teachers did a marvellous job in motivating students by injecting fresh ideas and techniques.

Finally SM did agree it was not all that bad but suggested that we need to reevaluate before jumping to conclusion. I agreed and left on that note.

Anyway it was a heart to heart talk with no malice intended mutually.

5th Day Teaching Practice

As usual I reached school on time. Today the 5th of September is my 5th teaching practice session.

I had actually prepared the question paper for today's test for the Form 2's from the Form 1 book.

I conducted the test and observed the students while they were taking the test. Once they finished I marked their papers and found that they were able to answer most of the questions correctly. Perhaps this was it was from the Form 1 book, I think. I am not sure. Anyway they were able to finish the questions within the time allotted for them.

Below are the questions administered to the students.

Analysis of the test paper

Most of the students found the following questions difficult:

1.Name two types of computer network.

2.What is meant by 'electronic interference'?

3.What does the abbreviation CFC stand for?

4.Name two products that contain CFCs.

5.How does the use of CFCs harm us?

6.Name two services provided by BBS?

Some of the student didn't answer about 'automation' related questions.

Most of them knew well that

  1. Computer cannot think and feel, can work continuously.

2. Computer causes disease like Back ache, eye strain and hand injury.

3. Tele-shopping,Tele-banking and Tele-officing.

I feel that the questions set were not that difficult but probably the students were not prepared.

Most of the students managed to answer all the questions in the allocated time except for a

couple who were uninterested to complete the paper.

Teaching Practice

On 9th August 2008 I went to SM Sultan Sharif Ali to perhaps get a chance to do my TP there unfortunately they couldn't accomodate me. So the next destination was SMPDSM, Mentiri which I approached a couple of days later.

The DP was a nice gentleman who promptly asked me to come the following Monday to meet with the HOD of Computer Studies.

So on Monday 11th August I reached the school at 6.30a.m and met the principal who was very cordial and we started talking about my course and introduced me to the H.O.D.

After checking through the timetable at the staffroom she told me that Wednesday would be a better day for me since I would be teaching a Form 2 class.

I checked my timetable and fortunately I was free and so I said I would call Dr Leong, my lecturer and confirm with him if its ok.

When Dr Leong said it was ok the H.O.D gave me a copy of the school timetable, introduced me to Cg Siti Renee, my coordinating teacher and asked me to come back on Wednesday.

Wednesday, 20th August arrived at 6.40a.m. Met the principal and recited doa and then went to the staffroom.

At 10 I went to MB2C and supervised 18 students having a test since their teacher had to attend a meeting.

After taking the attendance I distributed the question papers and the students began their revision test. The paper lasted an hour and a half. I collected the papers and marked them in 1 hour based on the answer key provided by the teacher.

The test was on the impact of computer on our economics and social life. Chapter 4 of their textbook.

The students performance was moderate.
